pants Style Guide

Classic Brief

A classic style that provides full coverage to the front and rear, with the leg line resting at the top of the thigh. Briefs come in a large variety of cuts and styles to suit your needs and are a supportive underwear option.

Y-Front brief

Y-Front briefs have a right hand vertical fly opening.

Maxi

A traditional brief, often with a Y-Front fly, that provides full coverage of the buttocks and the waistband is usually just below the navel.

Midi

Provides full coverage of the buttocks and the waistband sits at the natural waistline between the navel and the hips.

Mini

Slimmer in design the waistband tends to be low rise, sitting on the hips and the rear can have less coverage of the lower buttock area.

Short / Midway

The support of a brief but the material also covers the most of the thigh (between half and a third of the thigh); the material fits closely around the thighs for a smooth fit under trousers. The waistline usually sits on the natural waistline between the navel and the hips. These are good styles for sporting/active men as they reduce friction between the thighs.

Trunk / Hipster

A modern version of the ‘Short’ or ‘Midway’ there is the same level of support but cover much less of the thigh (between a quarter and a third of the thigh).

Boxer Short/Woven Boxer

A loose fit classic boxer which often features a fly and is usually made from cool cotton.  The boxer doesn’t provide any support but it does allow for ventilation. Many men wear these at night time or in hotter climates.

Long

Similar to the ‘Short’ or ‘Midway’ but covers around half to two-thirds of the thigh often settling above the knee.

Overknee

A close fitting garment similar in styling to the long john but doesn’t extend to the ankles like a long john instead the material usually sits under the knee, half way down the calf.

Long John

A close fitting garment which extends to the ankles, often worn by men in outdoor professions. These can come in thicker materials as thermal underwear options.

Thong

Is a piece of material which is designed to sit between the buttocks; it provides no coverage of the buttocks. Male thongs are designed to give good support and can be either high rise or low rise on the waistline depending on the style.

String

A slimmer piece of material that goes along the waistband and between the buttocks than a thong, it can be less supportive.
